Sekuritisasi TikTok di Amerika Serikat di Masa Pemerintahan Donald Trump pada tahun 2020

Donald Trump mengeluarkan kebijakan akan melakukan pelarangan penggunaan aplikasi buatan Tiongkok tersebut dengan kecurigaan adanya tindakan pencurian data pribadi pengguna TikTok warga Amerika Serikat serta sebagai langkah awal perlindungan keamanan nasional. Kekhawatiran pencurian data dan spionase yang diasumsikan oleh Donald Trump akan disalurkan ke pemerintahan Tiongkok—khususnya oleh Partai Komunis Tiongkok yang mengancam TikTok tidak akan dapat dioperasikan lagi di Amerika Serikat. Dengan adanya speech act yang dilakukan oleh Trump ke media serta pernyataannya pada tanggal 6 Agustus 2020 di White House menjadi langkah pertama national emergency Amerika dalam melarang TikTok di AS. Namun terdapat beberapa diskusi dan pertimbangan yang dilakukan antara pihak TikTok dengan Donald Trump beserta pemerintahan AS khususnya dengan Departemen Perdagangan AS dan Sekretaris Negara. Dengan menggunakan teori sekuritisasi, penulis menganalisis langkah yang diambil Trump terkait permasalah yang dihadapi. Argumen sementara terhadap kasus ini adalah Trump melakukan pelarangan TikTok untuk melindungi keamanan nasionalnya, khususnya data sekaligus menutupi kegagalan kampanyenya di Tulsa, Oklahoma. Terdapat asumsi juga bahwa Trump akan membeli TikTok tidak hanya dengan alasan keamanan nasional namun agar dapat mengontrol kerja aplikasi tersebut dan memiliki teknologi algoritma yang menjadi kunci sukses aplikasi tersebut
